Schlapp is, however, maintained her focus on her job. She works closely together with White House political affairs and legislative teams along with policy shops as well as the larger communications operation in order to coordinate the policy roll-out. Her focus has been on issues including the safety of schools, opioids, and infrastructure, along with trade. At the moment the director does not interact extensively with journalists. The issue came up in March when she received a flurry of interest, after it was widely known that Schlapp was the next candidate to take over Hope Hicks's post as director of communications. The battle has been brutal. Allies to Schlapp and Tony Sayegh, another contender for the job, began jousting in the media. Schlapp stated to The Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about a recent negative article about him.
